Update.

I just sent Berra an email saying west 49 is not to be on the unified program. He got back to me saying “no they are not allowed”

Thank you Steve. I can sleep tonight.

original post ....You know what, fuck it, I was gonna go on and on about whats going on with the slap thing and the united program. I just don’t feel like it tho. Hmmm Well maybe I do… the United program is supposed to be a collection at the berrics of great skate shops around the world. So we all know what shop is rad if we are in a new city or whatever… its just nice to see.

But today I see the canteen is now a full online skate shop. They do not help skate shops. DO NOT. Every sale online is a sale taken away from a shop. Simple. I been through my opinions on that before.

Anyways, that is no biggie really tho… I feel like the berrics is not cheap to run, no way… and its amazingly entertaining. So if they have an online shop, you know where the money is going, straight to the berrics… fine.

but then I find out that it costs a shop money to be apart of the United program, not 50 bucks…. but lots, thousands possibly.

And on the SLAP boards shit is hitting the fan the last few weeks… I stay out of it… I never get involved with any of that stuff… but decide today to read a touch of the thread… and one guy on there summed up the whole ordeal for new comers, like me.

Below is what he said.

Now this is where I decide I have to make a post on my site. You see west 49 is in there and may be getting on that United Program… what’s 5 grand to them? Nothing, just like throwing some cash at park in a small city at the last second to get the parks name “the west 49” so and so city park. No big deal. (sarcasm).

West 49 is not core… infact that whole core thing is not even really real. Its like an industry word made up by non skaters. I never ever heard a real shop say we are CORE dawg. Never. Skate shops are humble, and they are quite simply “skate shops”, not “core skate shops”. Either way, west 49 is not a skate shop. Simple.

Core, extreme… gross.

Now alot of this could be blown out bullshit on twitter and slap and the internet, or its not. Either way, please please email Steve Berra (who I enjoy, and think is a great skater) at the berrics and let him know west 49 is not to be on the united program… tell him that, very simple… or get into it, tell him what you really think and let him have it… either way the more we email, the better chance of it not happening. Infact if they do get on the program, I will delete my site for good and never open another skate mag or click on a sk8 site again. Ever. The act of skating is all that matters. I can do away with the crap. But I feel deep down Berra is just uneducated about west 49. So please school him. steveberra@theberrics.com … Click here for more emails.

okay don’t email steve… or email steve and say thanks for not allowing them into the program, let him know he did the right thing. He emaild saying that west 49 is not apart of it.
